Message and my first car.

My dad calls it a “convertible hardtop” because you can roll the front and rear windows down and there is no B pillar so it looks like a convertible with the top up and windows down. It's the first year of teh "new" body style after the boxy six-fo, and has the 3 tailights on each side on the trunk instead of in the bumper like later models.

It has a 283 with the “Power Pack” on it; 4bbl carb and headers I think. I think it was rated at 275hp. It has a 3-speed on the column, and has overdrive (in the top 2 gears as I recall).

I’d go with the Boyd Codington ’67-’69 Camaro hotrod look. Beefed up suspension, lowered on 18’s. Get rid of any chrome trim and smooth out everything. Go with a roll pan front and rear under the bumpers. Don’t want to go with a big block crate motor as that’s too ordinary. I think a VG30DETT would go well, and make people do a doubletake. I have spare NA and TT engines, so I have all the parts I’d need. Either that, or stick with the 283 and work it over and go with forced induction on it. Put a modern 6-speed manual behind it and redo the interior with bucket seats, leather, etc.

We also have a 1970 Ford F-100 short bed with 302 and 3 on the tree, plus a 1965 (I think) Scout 80 (or 800) with a slant 4. Either of those would be cool to resto-mod as well. A 1978 Monte Carlo w/ the 305 and about 60K miles on it rounds out the collection.

Mike
